A practical course for simultaneous interpretation: Sample Speeches and Practical Activities for the Use of Second-Year M.A. Students in Specialised Translation and Interpretation. This book is a collection of speeches and exercises meant to be used as a basis for practical activities during the applied sessions of Practical Course for Simultaneous Interpretation , which the graduate students of the Master’s Programme for Specialised Translation and Interpretation (MATIS) at the Faculty of Engineering in Foreign Languages of the Technical University of Civil Engineering Bucharest study and practice during their fourth and last semester foreseen by the curriculum. The material which serves as a basis for practice and exercises is a range of speeches and press conferences, among others, which have been included in this volume on account of their oral style, which is suitable for the development and practice of simultaneous interpretation skills, as well as various strategies and techniques, that vary according to the type of speech. The exercises in the last chapter cover a range of skills, and strategies, while not being restricted to them. They include activities which can be done before the interpretation proper, as preparation exercises, as well as during the interpretation, and afterwards, as tools for performance analysis. The book lends itself very well to the use by those who are not necessarily enrolled in the MATIS or any other MA programme in this field but wish and need additional practice as aspiring professionals in the field of simultaneous conference interpretation.
